Notes for John WOODRUFFE


JOHN WOODRUFFE, born in 1574, on coming to man's estate took up his
residence in Northgage, where his uncle, William Russell, was a churchwarden.
Hemarried, 1601, Elizabeth Cartwright; their son John was baptized in 1604; in
1611 he died, at the early age of thirty-seven. His will "would not lead us to
suppose that any increase to his fortune had resulted from his removal to
Northgate." In it, "delivered this (sic) of September, 1611," when he was
"very sick in bodye," and proved in October, 1611, he, "John Woodrufe,"
"husbandman"(head of a household), bade that he "be buried at the direction of
my well-beloved wyffe"; named minor legacies to his young and only son John,
and others; and left all the rest of his "goods and chattills" to his wife
Elizabeth. The widow married Mr. John Gosmer.
