Notes for Joshua CLARKE


C.C.Gardner, page 25: Joshua 2 Clark, son of Richard and Elizabeth Clarke, was born on Long Island 166? . He settled in E.T. and was a contributor to the support of the Presbyterian Church there in 1694. His name is frequently mentioned as
petitioner against the Proprietors. In Nov. 1711, he was fined in Essex County for blocking a road. His will, dated Aug. 20, 1714, and probated Feb. 9, 1714/5, names his wife Abigail, and provides that his real estate be divided among his four sons,
the homestead to go to Benjamin and Joshua. The sons were required to pay 5 shillings to their sister Abigail Poule. The executors were wife Abigail and brother Ephraim Clarke. [Will abstract in NJA 23:95 (Lib. 1, p. 518 and Essex Wills); witnesses
