C.C.Gardner, page 29: He was born on Long Island about 1670. He was one of the "Associates of Elizabethtown" in 1699, and in 1701 contributed a small amount toward the support of Rev. John Harriman. In the collection of manuscripts belonging to the
New Jersey Historical Society, there is a deed dated Dec. 3, 1702 from Samuel Clarke of Elizabethtown, planter, and Susanna, (who signed with her mark) to Thomas Clarke, also of Elizabethtown, planter, for Samuel's share of the estate of their father,
Richard Clark, deceased. The consideration named is £10.

1715, Nov. 14. CLARKE, Samuel, of Elizabeth Town, Essex Co., yeoman; will of. Wife Susanna. Children - Samuel, Jonathan, John, Isaac, Susana, Sarah, Elizabeth. Lot of 18 acres, bought of Samuel Parret [Parrot], between Richard Brodwell [Broadwell],
Charles Allen, Samuel Sayre dec'd, and John Clark of Elizabeth Town dec'd, 10 acres next to John Brookfield's, 2 acres of meadow on Stophilus' Creek, lot No. 132 in Elizabeth Town of 100 acres, one-third of the plantation of said John Clark dec'd,
bought of his daughter Mary, 3 acres of meadow on Luke's Point; personal property. Executors - the wife and brother Richard Clarke. Witnesses - Benjamin Bonnel, Samuel Potter, Sam. Littell. Proved April 11, 1716. [Liber A, p. 11]
