Notes for Elizabeth DIXON

"Elizabeth Clark appears in the Census of 1790 for Cumberland Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania (p. 248) [now Greene Co.] with three sons under 16 years of age, and 1 white female [persumably herself], whither she had gone with the family of
John Jonas, a veteran of the Revolution. [ but John was in Maryland as early as 1782 when his daughter Catherine was born there. Did Elizabeth go to PA and then MD from NJ later, after Thomas Clark died]. The latter's wife, Lucy, was a daughter of
Jonathan Squire and his second wife Hannah Dixon, possibly a near relative of Elizabeth (Dixon) Clark. About 1793-4 these families moved to Selbysport, Allegany Co., Maryland where Elizabeth died and was buried." [GMNJ 7:93.]

There is no Elizabeth Clark in the 1800 census of Cumberland Twp., Greene Co., PA. - need to check Maryland, Allegheny Co.

In 1790 she does not appear to be living near Aaron Clark at all. as he and his family were in Strabane Township. She is the only Clark in this township. There is a "John Jones" 1/2/3 and "Michael Jones" 1/2/3 in the same township in 1790. [males over
16/males under 16/all females], which might be the census taker's interpretation of "Jonas." There are no Frazees or Dixons in that township.
