Notes for David Samuel HITT

David Samuel Hitt was a Forty-niner, he went to the California Gold Rush
of 1849. He had a partner named Meeker who he named his daughter, Laura
Meeker Hitt, after. The story handed down in the family is that when
David returned to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa for the birth of his daughter,
Eliza, his partner sold the claim and disappeared. Years later Laura
would go to the state of Washington and look for Meeker but to no avail.
