Source of these notes was an interview with Gladys Lanore (Dickinson)
Reinhart on November 28, 1983 in Bend, Oregon at her home at 877 Federal
St. The interview was conducted by her Grandson Leslie W. Ross.
I met my husband, Lee Henderson Reinhart, when I lived with my family in
Foxhome, Minnesota. He lived with his brother, Raymond David Reinhart,
on a farm near ours in Foxhome. The two families got together frequently
as well as the children.
I lived in Spencer, Iowa until I was about 12 or 13 years old. My father
and his brother owned a butcher shop in Spencer, but father wanted to be
a farmer - we had an 80 acre farm in Iowa. My father got what they
called an Emigrant Car on the railroad and loaded it with everything we
owned - household goods, furniture, animals and farm machinery and
started on ahead for Foxhome. My mother and sisters stayed behind and
followed in a few days. We caught up with father in Staples, Minnesota,
and then traveled on to Foxhome with him. Some of our baggage did not
arrive with us and one of my sisters had only the clothes she was wearing
and a coat since the rest of her clothes were in the missing baggage.
My mother made a second dress for my sister from the coat while we waited
in a hotel. After we arrived in Foxhome we stayed in a hotel for awhile
until father settled into the farm.
