Notes for Esek HOPKINS

Esek was born 1718 at Scituate, Rhode Island, and died 26 February
1802 at North Providence. He was commissioned 22 December 1775 a Commodore
and Commanding Chief of the Navy of the United Colonies. He was a brother of
Stephen Hopkins, L.L.D. one of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence
(Hatfield MSS - NY Historical Society).
