Notes for Sarah CONKLIN

Died at age 66.
Woodruff Chronicles Vol.II, page 11, shows Elizabeth Parsons (wife of Timothy
Woodruff) as daughter of Seth Parsons and Sarah (Conklin) Parsons of
Easthampton, L.I."
EAST HAMPTON HISTORY, by J. E. Rattray, under "Parsons", page 513:
SETH 3 (s. of Samuel 2, 1) b. at E.H. 1664, d. Sept. 19, 1725. . . .He m.
1693 Sarah Conkling, she b. 1673 d. Nov. 8, 1740. . . ."
Rattray also has mention in other places, as on page 248, referring to
Hannah, widow of Lewis Mulford, being "dau. Seth and Sarah Conklin Parsons."
SALEM AND THE CONKLING FAMILY, by Frank J. Conkling, Essex Institutes, Vol.
XXXI, gives no reference to this Sarah Conklin[g].
THE LINE OF JOHN CONCKLYNE OF SOUTHOLD AND HUNTINGTON, by Conklin Mann,
Esq., of New York, as published in TAG 21 and 22, does not show this Sarah
Conklin.
SOUTHOLD TOWN RECORDS, as published 1884, does not show this Sarah Conklin.
CONKLING, CONCKLINE, CONKELYNE, CONKLIN, OF EAST HAMPTON, L.I., by H.L.
Mersereau, as published NYGBR 27:152 et seq., (1896) does not show this Sarah
Conklin.
Littell, in his section on Conklin, beginning page 83, does not show this
Sarah Conklin.
NEHGR 61:386 (1907) Genealogical Research in England, shows under Registers
of St. Peter's Church, Nottingham, Ananias Conklin, m. Mary Launder, and John
Conklin, m. Elizabeth Allseabrook. "These are evidentally the marriages of
the two Conklin brothers who came to Salem, Mass., before 1639, but settled in
Southold, L.I."
Letter Inquiry to East Hampton (L.I.) Library, brought response dated March
14, 1992, "I am sorry to report that I have not located any additional
information on Sarah Conklin, born 1673. After several hours of checking
Jeannette Edward Rattray's files I only found a repeat of the material in her
book. Enclosed are photocopies of her manuscript material." Signed by
Dorothy T. King, Librarian, Long Island Collection.
Letter from Sherrill N. Foster of East Hampton, L.I., N.Y. dated May 2,
1992, (a descendant of Seth Parsons and Sarah Conklin, through their son John
Parsons) includes a Chart showing Sarah (Conkling) Layton as wife of Seth
Parsons, and as daughter of Capt. John Conkling and Sarah (Horton) Salmon.
That Sarah Conklin, however, is given birthdate by Mann, in TAG 21:251 as
1662/3 and date of marriage to Laughlin/Layton as 28 July 1680 (at which date
Sarah Conklin who married Seth Parsons would have been seven years old.)
If she were the same who had been married to Layton, and thus born about 1662,
she would have been close to 50 years old at time of birth of Elizabeth, who
married Timothy Woodruff.
