Notes for Marcy CARLE

In Howell, History of Southampton, pg. 407, under "Woodruff Family", we find:
John 2 of Elizabeth, N.J. m. Mercy or Mary Carle of East Hampton, and had
son 6 Timothy 3, who on May 12, 1709, m. Mary Baker of East Hampton.
In Woodruff Chronicles, Vol. II, page 9, we find: John (4) Woodruff, b.
1686-87, d. after 1749. He m. in 1708, Marcy Carle (she presumably a sister
of Jonas Carle of Elizabeth Town, Essex Co., . . ." This shows John (4) as
a brother of Timothy (4) Woodruff, who married May 12, 1709, Mary Baker, a
daughter of Nathaniel & Catherine (Shellenger) Baker of Easthampton, L.I.
See NYGB Record, Vol. LXVIII, p. 221. In the Woodruff Chronicles account,
Timothy (4) and John (4) were both sons of John (3) Woodruff, who married
Sarah Cooper.
Letter inquiry to East Hampton, L.I. Library, brought response from Dorothy
L. King, Librarian, Long Island Collection, dated March 14, 1992: "Enclosed
is a listing of material here on the Carle family. There was no birth or
baptism listed for Marcy in our index. . . ."
