Notes for Samuel WOODRUFF

Woodruff Chronicles, Vol. I, page 58.
"The Honorable Samuel 4 Woodruff, Esq., one of the most prominent members of the Elizabeth Town family, was born in Elizabeth Town ca. 1715 and died there on August 10, 1768. He was buried beneath the floor of the First Presbyterian Church, but
destruction of the church by fire by the British on January 25, 1780,. probably destroyed any marking of his grave, and subsequent additions to the rebuilt structure further concealed his interment. At the time of his death he was in possession and
occupation of the historic Woodruff-Boudinot-Dayton mansion, the 8-room central unit of which, as now (1945) restored, is at 1073 East Jersey Street, Elizabeth, New Jersey.
"The surname of Elizabeth, wife of the Honorable Samuel Woodruff, Esq., whom he married prior to 1733 and who survived him in 1768, remains unknown and no further record of her has been found. It has been suggested that she was Elizabeth Ogden,
but proof of this is lacking, and such a marriage is not recorded in Wheeler's Ogden Genealogy."
