The REverend Benjmin Woodruff, older son of the Honorable Samuel Woodruff, Esq., was born in Elizabeth Town in 1733 and died on April 3, 1803. He was pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Westfield from 1759 until his death, and he is buried
beneath this churd. He had acquired an A.B. and A.M. degree (1756) from Princeton University. . . . The REverend E. F. Hatfield, historian and author of History of Elizabeth, New Jersey (1868) gives a splendid sketch of Reverend Benjamin Woodruff,
but he was in error in the genealogical identification of Reverend Benjamin."
