Served in Revolutionary Army. He was probably born in Rahway and later moved
to Stony Hill (Littell). See Genealogical Collections, C.C.Gardner p. 123.
5/17/1803 Elias Clark of Essex Co.; will of. Wife, Elizabeth... Son, David...40 acres [etc.]. Sons, Elias and Icabud. 4 daughters, Sarah, Mary Ann, Rachel and Hannah Clark. Daughter, Sarah Stewart's to go to her son, Clark Stewart, when he is
21... Mary Ann's to her son, James... Daughter, Rachel Wilson. Son, Icabud, to his son, John, 6 acres... Daughters, Nancy Allen and Betsey Sutton, 8 acres... Icabud's wife, Phebe. Executors - friend, Ezra Darby, and brother-in-law, William Fletcher.
Witnesses - Benjamin Crane, Daniel Hart and Jonathan Totter. [is this Trotter or Totten?] Proved 6/9/1803. Lib. 40, p. 330; File 10195G. [Ref# 13] or perhaps file 11723G.

Elias Clark of Westfield and Springfield is mentioned in Boston Transcript 26 May 1926 - #4249
Also mentioned in "Officers and Men...", p. 539 and War of 1812 in "Records of the Officers and Men of New Jersey 1791-1815", p. 94.
Not certain that these are all the same man, but worth investigating.

In the Unrecorded Estate Papers at NJSA there is a record of a Stephen Clark, less than 14 years of age, son of Elias, who appointed Richard V. Smith guardian. Need to check....

Elias Clark to Ichabod Clark [need to see original]
This indenture made this fifteenth day of February in the year of our Lord on thousand seven hundred and ninety four 1794 by and between Elias Clark of the county of Essex in the state of New Jersey, Yeoman, of the one part and his dutiful son Ichabod
Clark of the sounty and state above........yeoman, of the other party.
Witnesseth that the said Elias Clark for and in consideration of good will, love and affection which he has and bears towards his said son Ichabod, and for the sum of sixty pounds of good and lawful money of the state of New Jersey above....to im in
hand well and....paid before the ensealing and delivery herof by the said Ichabod Clark. The receipt whereof the said Elias Clark acknowledges and himselfto be herewith fully satisfied, contented and paid and thereof and of from every part and parcel
thereof does....dequit and forever discharge him the said Ichabod Clark and to his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns forever. etc., etc.
...land in the county of Essex and state of New Jersey above and on that very piece of land which the same Elias Clark purchased of William Darby by a deed dated teh twenty ninth of April, one thousand and seven hundred and seventy eight. Beginning at
a stake where formerly stood a chestnut stump being a corner of Ebenezer Lyons land and from thence running with his line and binding thereon South, allowing for variation, thirteen chains and eighty five links to a stake; thence East, allowing for
variation and binding on an South line six chains and sixty seven links to a stake thence North parallel with the first line and binding on the land of the said Elias Clark thirteen stakes and eight five links to a stake and from thence West parallel
with the second line and binding on the lines of Elias Clark six chains and sixty seven links to the beginning. Containing nine acres of land to be the smae more or less. Together also with the houses, out houses and all manner of building, fences,
orchards, gardens, fences, woods, meadows, pastures and all the profits, etc.
Elias Clark is true owner...per the Eliza-Town Right beigna grant under General Richard Nicholls, Esq fomerly governor of New York and a purchases from the natives, the Indians.
Elias Clark will defend title against all who "claiming the same by from and under the above Eliza-Town Right.
Elias, with Elizabeth his wife, who freely consents to the sale...gives up dower right...

William Coles later appeared before [Judge?] Jeremiah Ballard to attest to deed on 26 June 1803. [most likely because Elias Clark died in that year].
Possibly named after Elias Wood.
