Samuel and Phebe Sayre married March 02, 1815.
They lived in Ohio until 1828 when they built a flatboat to float and sail down the Ohio River.
Below Uniontown, Kentucky, they put into the Wabash River where they pushed and sailed the flatboat
north to Mt.Carmel, Illinois. Due to low water, they had to spend the winter months there.
The two oldest children attended school for about three months.
After the heavy winter months, the water was higher and they moved to Terre Haute, Indiana,
arriving there in March 1829.
He rented a farm and stayed there for three years.

1. MARY CLARK, b. 27 August 1815; died 30 August 1823.
2. LYDIA CLARK, b. 4 October 1817; d. September 15, 1878
married PHILIP SHULL February 18, 1841, Vigo Cty., IN
3. EPHRAIM SAMUEL SAYRE CLARK, b. 27 February 1819 d. 27 July 1901
married MILDRED ANN JONES.+
4. HANNAH CLARK, b. 6 (or 7) October 1820;
married ABRAM HOFFMAN. He was a farmer. They resided in Indiana and had six children.
5. SARAH (Sally) CLARK, b. 10 May 1822 Meigs County, OH; d. January 11, 1901
married ISAAC CASHMAN 1849 . They resided in Bureau County, Illinois, and Iowa County, Iowa,
and had five children.
6. CAROLINE CLARK, b. 16 March 1824; died 18 April 1824.
7. AMOS CLARK, b. 27 March 1825;
married LUCY REITHER.
He was a shoemaker and traveling salesman. They had one child.
8. ESTHER CLARK, b. 26 November 1826;
married GEORGE WASHINGTON GRANT. He was a farmer.
They resided in Missouri and had four children.
9. ROBERT CLARK, b. 1 April 1831;
married HANNAH OSTRANDER. Lived in Boone County, Iowa and had two children.
10. ROSETTA CLARK, b. 18 (or 28) October 1832;
married GEORGE HOFFMAN. They resided in Holt County, Nebraska, and had three children.
11. CHARLES WESLEY CLARK, b. 23 February 1834;
married CATHERINE McMANUS. He was a farmer and they resided in Southern Missouri
and had four children.
He served three years during the Civil War with Company D, 20th Illinois Infantry.
12. MELVINA CLARK, b. 14 October 1835;
married CALVIN ROBERTS. Mr. Roberts was a carpenter by trade.
They resided in Barton County, Missouri, and they had six children.
13. JOHN NELSON CLARK, b. 18 December 1837.
He served in the Union Army, Company D, 20th Illinois Infantry, during the Civil War.
John N. Clark died in 1862 from wounds received in action at Ft. Donelson.
His remains were brought home and buried in Ancona Cemetery, Livingston County, Illinois.
14. ELIZA ANN CLARK, b. 22 July 1839;
married HENRY SULTZBAUGH. Resided in Webster County, Iowa and had four children.
Henry was a coal miner.
NOTE:
EPHRAIM SAYRE was born 22 August 1770 and married in Monongalia County, (W) Virginia,
to LYDIA FAWCETT who was born 1 April 1776 and died 15 January 1856.
Ephraim was a farmer and was a class-leader in the Methodist Episcopal Church for many years.
He died at Letart Falls, Meigs, Ohio 12 February 1848.
Burial was in Letart Falls Cemetery, Letart Falls, Meigs, Ohio.
Ephraim Sayre was son of DAVID SAYRE who was born in Essex County, New Jersey, 30 May 1736,
David was son of Daniel and Rebecca (Bond) Sayre; married about 1758,
PHEBE SAYRE was born 4 February 1797.
She married at Letart Falls, then Gallia County, (Mar. Bk. 1, p. 46) Ohio, 2 March 1815 (by Picket Marvin)
to SAMUEL CLARK who was born 8 (or 20) March 1792 to Samuel (1768-1856) and Mary (Darby) Clark.

Probably buried in Hoskins Cemetery, Seelyville, Vigo Co., Indiana.
Oddly, daughter Esther Grant stated that her father was born in Virginia
