Notes for John CLARK


Of Clinton Township, Indiana in 1895.

Wednesday, May 14, 1902
Yesterday morning, May 13, 1902, John Clark, a well known citizen and wealthy farmer, who resided 2 miles west of Clinton, dropped dead. The deceased would have been 73 years of age on September 3rd. He was born in Butler County, OH, September 3, 1829,
and when 3 years old, his parents Ezra and Nancy (Fullwinder) Clark, moved to this township, locating 3 miles southwest of Newport, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Rachel Smith of Clinton Township, August 16, 1853. They began housekeeping
in this township, were he spent the rest of his days. His wife died November 29, 1879, and on July 25, 1880, he was again married, his second wife being Mrs. Charity (Bruce) Downs, a native of Edgar County, IL, who died several years ago. Her married a
third time to Martha L. Brown in 1898; his last wife and one child surviving him. Mr. Clark was a Democrat, a good citizen, and had been a subsriber to the Hoosier State for many years.

1. Pay all my debts and funeral expenses.
2. Erect a monument at the grave of my deceased wife CHARITY CLARK.
3. If the sister of my deceased wife, CHARITY CLARK, JANE AMIS, shall survive me, I bequeath her $1000 to be paid within 2 years.
4. To my beloved wife MARTHA S. CLARK, all my personal property. I give all my real estate to her also.
5. If my wife MARTHA S. CLARK shall die without issue begotten by me, I give to my sister MARY BETSON all my real estate during her natural life. It shall go to her children at her death.
6. I nominate my wife MARTHA S. CLARK Executor.
