Notes for Charles CLARK

We have been furnished with a Xerox copy of 3 handwritten pages, entitled "Record taken from the old Family Bible of Charles Clark 2d of Westfield, N.J. at this date (Nov. 1st 1905) in the possession of his great grand son James Oliver Clark,
also a resident of Westfield, N.J. furnished by Miss Edith Cole Smith 215 N. Grove St., East Orange, N.J. Jan. 31st 1911." At the end of the third page is "Copied by Zona T. Thomas Oct 8th 1928."
After listing children, birth dates, some marriages, and other information, this includes:
"Revolutionary Record of Charles Clark 2d.
Charles Clark served under General W. S. Stryker in his Brigade as Ensign of Capt. Craig's Company during the service of his regiment. His name is recorded with the Ensigns of the New Jersey State Troops on page 450 of Gen. W. S. Stryker's
book of Officers and Men of New Jersey in the Revolutionary War.
The record of his birth and death is recorded in the family Bible of said Charles Clark, the Bible being now in possession of James Oliver Clark, his great grandson son now residing in Westfield, N.J. In March 1928 James O.
Clark was 80 yrs. old.
Charles Clark 2d was at one time acting Governor of the State of New Jersey. This was in 1813." [Note, other places, 1812].
Commem. History of Presbyterian Church of Westfield, McKinney, page 443 shows marriage of Charles Clark and Elizabeth Fitz-Randolph, July 19, 1788. That book does not show marriage records for 1774, indicating "page mutilated".
"Gleanings" -- the newsletter of the Genealogical Society of the West Fields, Vol. X, No. 5, (Oct. 1989), contains the "Muster Roll of Capt. Charles Clark Company: Taken by Capt. Stanbury when the Company was divided by Capt. Stanbury, Capt.
Edward Clark, Capt. Matthias Clark & Others", as incorporated into the Essex County list of militia for New Jersey in Norton's "New Jersey in 1793". This was post Revolutionary War company.
