Ellery B. Crane). John served in Philip Phillip's Co.,
Col. Joseph Phillip's 1st Regt. Hunterdon County, N.J.
Militia; enlisted Sept. 26, 1777; on rolls to Oct. 7,
1777 with remark "present."
1 Caleb: Mar. 31, 1782; Mar. 22, 1857, Rahway, N.J.;
m. Mary Hines Halsey (dau. of Maj. Daniel Halsey and
Mary Norris), Apr. 23, 1803. She was b. Feb. 25, 1786
and d. Mar. 7, 1875. Buried at Rahway, N.J. He was a
farmer and Presby.

Kennedy (descended of Francis Kennedy, who came
from Belfast, Ireland to America and fought in the
American Revolution); m. (2) Jan. 29, 1859, Susan
John Lumsden (dau. of John Lumsden and Susannah
Jones, of Jasper Co., Ga.; desc. of Jeremiah
Lumsden and William Jone, Revolutionary veterans,
both of whom came from Va. and settled in Jasper
Co., Ga., after the War). She was b. Mar. 31,
1828, d. Mar. 17, 1910. Lydia Robertson was b.
Sept. 7, 1825, d. May 19, 1856. John was a prom-
inent member of the Presbyerian Church, as were
his forefathers. He was an elder in the church at
Madison, Ga. for years. He was a gentleman,

refined, gentel. Went to Charleston, S.C. when
he was twenty-one, later went to Ga., became a
staunch southernor and slave owner. He was
connected with a wagon and carriage factory in
Charleston, under the name of Watts and Robertson.
Later he moved to Augusta, Ga., where he m. his
first wife. when the Ga. RR ran their first train
on the new road from Augusta to Madison Robertson
made the trip, and was so charmed by the old town
of Madison (noted for its two colleges, wealth,
aristocracy, culture and beauty), that he decided
to locate there, which he did, 1849, and remained
there until his death. He and his family are
buried in the Robertson lot in the old cemetery.
He was a member of the Ga. Militia during the
Civil War, but owing to feeble health (being age
60), he was relived from service and retained as
home guard and Commissary. He furnished much
material and service free of charge to the Confed-
erate troops, and "with unfailing loyalty gave
inestimable assistance to the cause of the
Confederacy. He dropped his first name and was
afterwards known as Dennis Morris Robertson. See
