Text: DIED.
Mrs. Jane Williams died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Kate Quinlan, at Covington, near Cedar Rapids, Monday morning, Nov. 4th, 1895. Mrs. Quinlan arrived in Sumner with the remains Tuesday evening and the funeral was held Wednesday morning
from the Presbyterian church, Rev. Jas. Stickel officiating.
Mrs. Williams maiden name was Baker. She was born in New Jersey in 1804 and had she lived till next Christmas she would have been 91 years old. She was married in 1823 to Levi Williams. They came to Wisconsin in 1846 and to the east side of Wilson
Grove in 1855. Mr. Williams died in 1873 at the age of 74. They had one child, Mrs. W. T. Wade, who died several years ago, since which time she has resided with her granddaughter Katie. She had been a member of the Presbyterian church between 50 and
60 years. About two years ago she fell, since which time she has been physically helpless, but her mind was clear and strong up to the last. The writer has known her for 40 years and always held her in great respect. It grieves us to see the few that
are left of the pioneers of those early days of hardship and frontier life go hence; but they are going one by one.
Pastor Stickel spoke eloquently to the living from John VIII, 51, the words of the Savior, Verily, verily, I say unto you, if a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
Her remains were deposited in Wilson Grove Cemetery by the side of those of her husband.
