Notes for Martin Van Buren CLARK

He was Superintendent of the Sunday School at Willow Grove Presbyterian Church, now part of Scotch Plains, and lived on the road to Rahway, where his son, George Burt Clark, was born in 1876. It is possible that this property was a part of the
original lands of William 2 & Sarah (Trotter) Clark; this is matter for further research.
Files of Martin's great grandson, Harman R. Clark, Jr., include original marriage certificate, death notice, numerous photographs and other documents. The marriage certificate was witnessed by Martin's first cousin, Stewart Erastus Clark, and
Stewart's wife, Julia F. (Mott) Clark.
Martin received a bequest of 60 - 70 acres under the Will of his father, David Warren Clark. See also Union County Deed Book 161, page 19, dated March 28, 1883, conveyance by James and Harriet E. Ferris, his wife, to Martin V. B. Clark, which
recites a mortgage made by Ferris to Clark, dated Oct. 22, 1872, and also recited that it is portion of the same land of said Martin V. B. Clark by descent from his father, David W. Clark, deceased. There follows a deed dated March 29, 1883, in Union
County Deed Book 161 at page 21, made by Martin V. B. Clark and Phebe A. Clark, his wife, to Susan K. Chamberlain. [See also Union County Deed Book 157, page 168, (1882) Thomas Forsyth to Martin V. B. Clark, which is a mortgage foreclosure vs. Thorn,
lands in the Township of Westfield.]
