Notes for Mary M. BOYLSTON

Obituary, 16 May 1895 in the "Henry News Republican" :
" Mrs. Mary M. Clark was born at Elizabeth, N.J. June 5, 1816, and died at Henry, Ill., May 14th, 1895, the deceased being 79 years old. Death has been a frequent visitor at their home. Robert N. Clark, the husband of the deceased, to whom she was
married Jan. 22, 1839, died August 10, 1891. Her daughter, Mrs. Abbie B. Clark, wife of Wm. E. Clark, the tinner, died the next year, April 1, 1892. Now the wife and mother has gone to join them at a good old age.
Mrs. Clark leaves one brother, Caleb Boylston of New York. One son, Sanford Clark, of Roselle, New Jersey. She also leaves eight grandchildren, four in New Jersey and four here. One great grandchild is in N.J.
Mrs. Clark joined the Presbyterian church at Elizabeth when quite young and transferred her membership to the Presbyterian church of this city in the Spring of 1866. Another familiar face has gone from us to that land where changes never come,
where time does not make its furrows on the cheek, and where death does not make its ravages. It was not mere sentiment we believe which caused the poet to write these sweet and sacred lines-
"There everlasting spring abides,
And never withering flowers."
They are based upon inspired truth. "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God."
The desire of the soul is for "a better country, that is, an heavenly", and God has called our sister "to an inheritance, incorruptable and undefiled, and that fadeth not away." "Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God." And while
mystery doth envelope thee, so long as we are confined and contracted by this mortal clay, yet our souls shall one day know "what it is to be there."
"So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom."
The funeral will be held this afternoon (Thursday, May 16,) from the residence on Main street, at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Arthur Miles officiating."
