Jehiel Ross Crane-Will, Monroe County Probate Record, P-Box-116, Monroe
County History Center, Bloomington, Indiana. The text below was transcribed
by Randi Richardson from an original, handwritten record in the probate
file. This will is also noted in Monroe County (IN) Deed Book 4, p.
400-402.
In the name of the benevolent father of all, I, Jehiel Ross Crane now of the
City of Bloomington, Indiana, and formerly of Montgomery County, do make and
publish this my last will and testament.
ITEM 1-I will and direct that my funeral be conducted in a manner comporting
with my estate and situation in life and that the expenses thereof and all
my just debts be paid as soon after my decease as practicable.
ITEM 2-I give and devise all that remainder of my estate, both real and
personal of whatever kind and wherever situate, to my beloved wife, Lydia
Crane, for and during her life, and at her death I will and direct that all
personal property not disposed of for her care, comfort and support, shall
be divided equally between my son, John W. Crane, and my granddaughters ,
Clara J. Long and Minnie E. Vaught, and in case of the death of any of said
legatees without heirs of their body, the survivors to share the said
personal property equally or if two of said legatees shall die without such
heirs I will in that case that the survivor or his heirs take the whole of
the personal property at my said wife's death.
ITEM 3-At the death of my said wife, I give and devise to my son, John W.
Crane, the following real (estate) in Montgomery County, Indiana, viz: the
west half of the northeast quarter of Section 17, Twp 18 North, Range 3
east, not to include 25/100 of an acre lying up to the south side of the
Indianapolis State Road now enclosed as a farm lot and owned by a William
(difficult to read) Lutes (difficult to read).
ITEM 4-The remainder of my real estate, after the death of my said wife,
Lydia, being 30 acres off of the north end of the northeast quarter of the
northwest quarter of Section 17, Twp. 18 North, Range 3 West, in Montgomery
County, Indiana, I devise to my two granddaughters, Clara J. Long and Minnie
E. Vaught, share and share alike.
ITEM 5-I hereby revoke all former wills by me made and do now make and
appoint my son, John W. Crane, the executor of this my last will and
testament, and should he fail, refuse or renounce the trust, I desire that
my friend, Frank Cornell (difficult to read) shall execute my will as
executor.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 11 day of July 1885.
