"FUNERAL OF DANIEL L. STAPLES - Daniel L. Staples, who was drowned while
crossing from the foot of Fifty-second street, New York, to Blackwell's
Island on Thursday last, was buried to-day, the interment being at Westfield,
N. J. Services were held at the residence of his sister, Mrs. Seely, 89
Seventh avenue, and were attended by members of Grant Post 327, Lodge 2,832
and the Edna Society" [Brooklyn Daily Eagle, 14 April 1886. p. 6]

THE LATE DANIEL L. STAPLES - At the regular meeting of Protective Lodge No. 2, 832, Knights of Honor, last Evening, appropriate resolutions were adopted in reference to the death of Daniel L. Staples, a member of the lodge and one of its officers. Mr. Staples was accidentally drowned in the East River on the 8th inst. while crossing in a rowboat from New York to Blackwell's Island."
