Notes for Pulaski JACKS

Supposedly made two trips from New York to SFO via ship [1850 & 1852], according to Internet researcher, undocumented. Perhaps for supplies?

Pulaski age 39 born in NY he is a jeweler
Mary S. age 35 born in NJ
Caroline J. age 14 born in NY
Amelia W. age 9 born in NY
Abby L. age 5 born in NY
William W. age 3 born in NJ
Fanny R. age 6 months born in NJ
Abby Woodruff (Abigal?) lives with them also; age 39 born in NJ
Amelia Jacks (no mention of Hamlet) age 30 born in NJ
Mary L. Jacks age 6 born in NY
Edward S. age 4 born in NJ
William H. age 2 born in NY

Pulaski very likely went to SFO. Signed documents there in 1851.

Jacks and Woodruff, jewelry, 157 Montgomery

1860 finds Pulaski & Mary and Abby and her husband in Napa, Napa, CA. Everything I find on Abby has her husband as William S. (not Finley?!?)

W. S. age 51 born 1809 he was born in New York and is a watch maker.
Wife: Abby T. age 50 born in N.J.
no one else living in the house.

Also in Napa is
Pulaski Sacks (mistranslated) age 47 born in NY and he is now a farmer.
Mary S. age 45
Amelia W. age 19
Abby L. age 15
Wm. W. age 13
Fanny R. age 10
Margaret W. age 7
Mary C. age 4
Ella B. age 3 Mary & Ella born in CA

Cannot find Amelia or her children; perhaps she remarried back in NJ.

1870 Napa, Napa, CA
Mary S. born 1815 she is a widow
Fannie age 20 is a teacher
Willie age 22 a laborer
Margaret age 16
mary age 14 born in CA
Ella age 13 born in CA

William S. born in 1809 works at a nursery
Abby T. born 1810
Canalita born 1852 in CA she is 18 yrs. old. ADOPTED????

1880 Napa, Napa, CA
William age 71 is a nurseryman
Abbie age 70

Mary age 65
Minnie (Mary) age 23
Ella age 21

I find where a Hamlet Jacks sails to San Francisco on the Bark Phoenix and also a bit about Hamlet and W. S. being brothers in CA. Will keep looking....atleast we have some children's names to go on.
